Following That Feel

Happy Sunday to you!

I'm joining you while on a quick trip to a lovely mountain wedding combined with couple days of R&R with my husband.

I've always been intuitive, especially when It comes to animals. I gained knowledge along the way as well, going through vet tech school and collecting lots of experience, but I still naturally trusted in my inner knowing. Graduating from an incredible human massage and natural healing school later in my studies helped me gain confidence in my feel, especially of the body.

In my late 20s, early 30s, I worked in a veterinary clinic. When an animal would come into the clinic with an odd condition or challenge, my friend and co-worker would often say, "just ask Kim, she'll know", and I usually did. I didn't question it or conjure up any kind of ju-ju to figure it out, I simply followed an intuitive feel and said what came up. I really didn't think that much about it. The team would explore what came up to determine that was the best direction to go with further testing or treatment and take it from there.

Later, in my mid-thirties, I wanted more knowledge and decided I'd go to veterinary school. I enrolled at the University of Montana to complete my missing pre-requisites. Once I got deep into the science classes I found myself intrigued, especially with chemistry. It was amazing to me how chemistry mirrored what I felt in the unseen world. How was it that the modern world believed deeply in the movement and exchange of these tiny, unseen protons, neutrons and electrons but not our ability to feel that exchange of energy on an intuitive level? When I began combining chemistry with biology (bio-chemistry) and at the same time, trying to understand calculus (not my best subject), I found myself having to move into my left brain thinking mode a lot more than I was used to. I don't know if it was the content, the teaching method, or the place I was in my life at the time, but I realized I wasn't trusting my intuition like usual and doubted myself a lot more.

Everyone in our area called me for help with their animals and suddenly I didn't feel confident to answer questions or help like I used to. This truly worried me and I didn't know what was happening. I called my old friend from the vet clinic, the one who believed in me, to tell her my concerns that perhaps all this knowledge was taking away my natural abilities. This friend never really believed in all the "woo-woo" stuff, but she always believed in me. Her advice was some of the best I ever got, "Stay the course. You need to know all these things you are learning. Your intuition will come back."

It did come back, but very slowly. It was literally about 10 years before I felt I trusted my intuition the way I did before I started my new knowledge journey. I often wonder what it would have been like if there had been support during that time to help me maintain a balance between science and intuition and feel.

When it comes to bodywork and the healing arts, it is so important that we are able to balance science and knowledge with art, feel and intuition. One without the other is not complete and conveying this fact has been the biggest mission I had while creating the School of Applied Integrative Therapy (SchoolAIT). It is imperative that we support each and every student on their journey to develop the knowledge, the feel and the intuition in this work and especially to gain confidence in both. By the time our students graduate from our programs, they have truly done the work to develop this balance and I couldn't be more proud of how willing they are to deep dive.

Since my days of struggle trying to navigate left brain - right brain balance, I've found so many incredible humans on the forefront of proving the energetic or "woo-woo scientificly. I just ordered a soon to be released new book by Dr. Bruce Lipton (the Biology of Belief) called, "Beyond Darwin: How Epigenetics, Quantum Science, and Cooperation Shape Humanity's Future" and can't wait to dive in and learn more. The concept of epigenetics facinates me and I'm quite certain these concepts will begin to replace some of the "facts" we rely on today.

I will be joining Anne Angelo Webb on her show "The Animal Intuitive" on August 19th. This one will be live! I'll share more details next week! https://www.theanimalintuitiveshow.com

I hope you have an amazing week and that you allow yourself to follow your feel and intuition just a little bit more than last week.

Take care,
Kim

PS - I've been working on some new offerings

The Space Between
My fascination with the unseen world continues to lead me toward the researchers and specialists who attempt to define and make it more real to our modern scientific lens. Lately, I've been going down the lens of "plasma". Not as in the liquid in our blood, but as in the fourth state of matter, the space between. In physics, we learned the three states of matter; solid - liquid - gas. When we a...
The Intuitive Human
Hey Everyone, Happy August. HOW did we ever get here so quickly?! I've been thinking a lot about the importance that intuition plays in bodywork and acupressure sessions, especially when working with animals. From my perspective, it is extremely important in all aspects of life but for whatever reason, our modern world tends to ignore this important gift that we all naturally possess. It is oft...

🪶 Sunday Thoughts with Kim

Welcome to Sunday Thoughts with Kim—a quiet place to pause, reflect, and reconnect. Each Sunday, I'll share stories, insights, and inspiration drawn from animals, nature, science, touch, and the beautiful journey of living with greater presence and purpose. Some weeks we'll explore equine and animal wellness and bodywork. Other weeks we'll wander through the wisdom of the natural world, the lessons our animals teach us, or the gentle reminders that help us return to ourselves. Whether you're here through SchoolAIT, The Soul in My Hand, or simply because you love horses and lifelong learning, my hope is that these weekly reflections encourage you to observe more deeply, live more intentionally, and discover the extraordinary in the everyday. Thank you for spending a few moments of your Sunday with me. With gratitude, Kim 🪶
